Football Kickabouts

OUR story

Matt Street - Football Kickabouts

About Me

Football is in the blood!

Having run a successful 6aside football business for 10 years, other avenues of jobs never had the same feel and buzz as being able to kick a ball around.  3G pitches were never available as a kid, so local parks with jumpers for goal posts were the norm.  A massive Southend United supporter was how I was brought up, and has never left.

More than just Football

football for mental health

COVID was difficult for everyone, with mental health being a big factor of why Football Kickabouts was launched.  Having local facilities readily available, I set out to launch a social kickabout in Southend on a Sunday evening.  Without even a marketing budget and using social media, it was only three weeks before the first kickabout launched back in February 2021 and still runs to this date with some players from that very first session still playing.  New kickabouts were quickly launched to include Milton Keynes and Billericay in Essex, also still running.

Fast forward to 2025, and now have our own venue in Southend with four 5aside pitches and so I guess football really is in the blood.

The main aim for Football Kickabouts is to improve mental health, stay fit and meet new people who quickly become friends.  There is no commitment to play each week as lets face it, everyone has massively busy lives, no subscriptions so no pressure to make it each week.  We are looking forward to working with new venues and partners who would want to start their own kickabouts.

Real People, Real Teams

Real community

Working from home can be isolating so this is perfect for my mental and physical health.
Playing with the lads has massively helped my fitness in the women’s game. They’ve been so welcoming and there is a balanced skill set here so I don’t feel out of place.
I’m Chris, one of the main keepers in Milton Keynes.
I got involved because I used to play with my old work and didn’t want to stop.
Needed to find a group of people who don’t play too seriously and found this group. I am restricted my old injuries but still love playing every week and have noticed how much better my shoulders and wrists now are.
